Question
Does changing the brand of diapers effect how much water they can hold?
Purpose
My purpose of doing this project is for my unborn baby sister. The day that my mom told me that she was pregnant was the week that my science teacher told us that we had to start choosing our topics for our science fair project. So I picked mine about diapers so my baby sister can have the best diapers. ;D
But also I whant to find what diaper is the most absorbant diaper.
Research
From the research that I did there were two word that kept popping up: absorption and disposable diapers.Absorption it mean the uptake or to pull in. And disposable diapers are diapers that you can only use once then no longer useful then have to be thrown away. From a lot of researching I learned that diapers are made out of a material called polymer crystals. I also learned that some diapers can give your baby serious diaper rashes. And all the urine or any type of liquid that absorbs into your baby’s diaper is because of those polymer crystals.Oh and FYI Did you know that one pound of polymer crystals can hold up to 50 pound of water!?
Hypothesis
(my prediction)
I predict that if i put fill the measuring cup up to the five and pour it into the Luvs diaper that it will start leaking right away. Why do I think that? because in my resarch it says that hugies have may layers and I thought that since the Huggie diaper has so many layers it was going to be the most absorbant diaper.
Materials
Procedures
Variables
Independent Variable
(change)
I will change the brand of diapers
Dependent Variables
(mesure)
I will mesure how much water leaks out of each diaper.
Controlled variable
(same)
I will not change how much water I put in each diaper
Results
Analysis
My data shows that Huggies held more water then the Luvs. My evidence is that in more than one test, the Huggies held five cups of water. Also, the Luvs only held more water in one test.
Conclusion
My hypothesis was correct. Why because my hypothesis was that Huggies was going to win and they did.
because in the results Huggies won twice and the Luvs only won one test. First the Luvs held two cups of water and the Huggies held one cup of water. But then the Huggies held five cups of water. But not one time but twice.
Abstract Organizer
Paragraph #1: The purpose of my science fair project was (what I want to learn):The purpose of doing this project was to find out the best diaper and the most absorbent diaper for my baby sister.
Paragraph #2: The hypothesis for this project was (give a description of what you thought will happen in your experiment): I think that if I put one cup(measuring cup) of water in the Luvs diaper it will start leaking right away.
Paragraph #3: I conduct my experiment by (describe how you carried out the experiment): Some of the most important steps that I had to do was making sure I put the exact same amount of water in each diaper and make sure I record my result right after I put the water in each diaper.
The Independent Variable (factor that changed) in my experiment was: The thing that I changed was the brand of diapers.
The Dependent Variable (factor that responded to the change)in my experiment was: Since I changed the brand of diapers my results where different.I measured the dependent variable in cups(of water).
The controls variable (factors that remains the same): The thing that I changed was the amount of water I put in each diaper.
Paragraph #4: The results for my experiment were: The results for my experiment was that the huggies won. But fist the Luvs was winning the Huggies diapers . But then, the Huggies started to beat the Luvs. And in the second through fourth trial the huggies was winning the Luvs diapers.
Paraphrase #5: The results for my experiment show that the Luv diapers won the Huggies in the first trial. But the Huggies won the Luv diapers in the second through fourth trial.
Paragraph #6: Analysis: My data shows that Huggies held more water then the Luvs. My evidence is that in more than one test, the Huggies held five cups of water. Also, the Luvs only held more water in one test.
Paragraph #7: Conclution: My hypothesis was correct. Why because my hypothesis was that Huggies was going to win and they did.
becase in the results Huggies won twice and the Luvs only won one test. First the Luvs held two cups of water and the Huggies held one cup of water. But then the huggies held five cups of water. But not one time but twice.

Materials
- 6 Huggie diapers
- 6 Luv diapers
- 1 measuring cup
- 14 bottles of water
- a big bowl
- 1 person to help you(ages 11 and up)
- 1 notebook
- 1 pen or pencil to record your results
Procedures
- get a Huggie diaper
- get the measuring cup
- get the water bottle
- open the water bottle
- pour the water in the measuring cup and keep going until the water reaches the five
- pour the water in the Huggies diaper over the big bowl
- do steps 1-6 with the other five diapers
- then you record your results that you got with the other five diapers
- get the a Luvs diapers
- get the measuring cup
- get the water bottle
- open the water bottle
- pour the water in the measuring cup and keep the going until the water reaches the five
- pour the water in the Luvs diaper over the big bowl
- do steps 9-14 with the other five Luv diapers
- record your results
